I really like this site, but with only one very simplified sample dataset for each problem, it can often be near impossible to decipher what is going wrong with your algorithm. A few sample datasets with the correct answer would give us a better chance at debugging the code when it isn't working. The "questions" section of the problems are often full of people saying their code is working fine on the sample data, but the submissions are failing. In these cases, the sample data just isn't testing the code rigorously enough. The "questions" section of the problems states: "If your solution works on the sample dataset, but fails on a real one, create some more samples to test it." This isn't always possible, either because you just don't know the correct answer for a simulated dataset, or because obtaining the correct answer would be a huge amount of manual labor.

It would be cool to get official Rosalind T-SHIRT showing achievements and problems solved for a user! I would pay up to $30 to have my T-SHIRT!

Dear Rosalind team (if there is still a team), the Rosalind platform is basically abandoned since 2012. I understand that funding ran out and people got new jobs, some of them at other universities or the private sector. However, there are still many people using the platform to learn programming and algorithm design with a focus on bioinformatics. Is it possible to publish the source code (on Github, Bitbucket, whatever) and let the community help to develop the site and keep it up to date? This would help to remove bugs and improve the user experience (e.g. fix the bug with gmail addresses). The tasks themselves should of course only be published to a "selected circle" of users. I am pretty sure that there are enough (bio)informaticians out there who would love to spend some of their time to strengthen the Rosalind project. There would have to be someone (or a team) that accepts pull requests etc. and that updates the actual website. This work should not be underestimated! But still I hope that there is someone who is willing to spend some extra time on that. Maybe even some (crowd) funding could help, but that is a bit out of the focus of this request. If the source code of the engine was published, other projects could also benefit from that. What about a physics or linguistics programming learning platform? People might thing that this platform is outdated since there are now many learning platforms like Hackerrank or checkIO, where the user can enter the code directly into the browser and the server interprets/compiles the code and runs it. I think the fact that the programs have to be written, compiled/interpreted, and run on the own machine just is an extra plus for this platform. People learn how to run Python interpreters and (maybe) to organise their files. I would myself be willing to support as much as I can any effort to publish the source code and to contribute with pull requests and suggestions. Sincerely MathiasB

Please add ability to go back to the original problem page from the question page associated with said problem. Additionally, please add ability to go back to the list of problems for my class from the individual problems.

add social aspect to site

I'd like to see a social aspect built in to the site - I think it could be beneficial just to keep tabs on other players you've friended in order to add an aspect of competition. In the future it would be excellent to add something like paired programming.

The last line of the kmers has an extra space. Spent a couple of hours figuring that out. Possibly could strip all data, but haven't needed to so far. Please remove the space. (The length of the last kmer is 102, all the others are 101.)

Add sessions

So i got into following situation. I have solved some amount of problems on rosalind about year ago. I have used Java for solving those problems. But now i am started to learn Python and i would like to solve again those problems with those language. Of course i can solve already solved problems, but in this case i can't see my progress. Also i can't distinct Java and Python solutions in a usable and quickly way. I think it would be useful to have a session manager for every user. Main idea there is that every session contains all your progress, and if you want to start it from beginning - just create new session. For example LeetCode have this functionality.

I would like to be able to see my own submitted code. I know the date when my solution was was successfully submitted, but I cannot to see my own code even if I search the all solutions by date.

Especially for problems that involve returning a long list of results, if ANY of the results are correct, it would be nice to have that acknowledged. The feedback of simply telling us that something is 'Wrong' is really discouraging and not at all helpful.

I like the idea of giving posthumous credit, but you could have included Chargaff. In fact, in my lectures Watson and Crick have been named incessantly. Only after reading wikipedia I knew the whole story. So my favourite name would be RosaChar!

It would be nice if the Rosalind account could be connected to wechall.net WeChall.net is a site were players connect their challenge sites to track his/her progress. It would be nice for WeChall users to have their rosalind progress connected with their profile. Furthermore it might increase the visibility of Rosalind and bring new users from diverse fields to get in touch with bioinformatics.
